Live and Learn

It has been several months since I began a blog. And although I have not kept up with the frequency of the updates I have, however, still continued on with the learning process. Determined and armed with more knowledge ( I love the Internet and all the people who willing share a plethora of information) I pressed on.

What I've learned is there truly are no shortcuts. The proportions on my previous attempt were dramatically skewed to, say the least, and as much as I would love to just pick up a ball of clay, wave a magic wand and *POOF* have instant doll gratification, I can not. Sooooo I went back to the drawing board.... Literally. With an idea created in ArtStudio for iPad, paper, and pencil in hand I sat down and thought this thing through.

I sketched her out, figured how much clay I would need and worked out the mechanics.
The brand new Soraya is 16 in tall (41cm) and proportioned to my liking.

One of the issues I adressed in the new and improved Soraya was the brittle nature of polymer clay at the stress points. It seemed every time I tried to string her together a piece would break or chip and leave me with the daunting, and counterproductive, task of fixing her. Then came Apoxie sculpt!!!!

This stuff is AMAZING.... I liked it so much I bought it in the 4lb size in natural color and white! OHHHHH, I have big plans for you Apoxie.
It comes in two parts, is self hardening, and has about 2 to three hours open time. The best part??? It dries hard as a rock. I need it to be so that when it's time to make a mold of her, she will not be completely destroyed.

My next step will be to give her hands and feet.....This would be MY point of procrastination because the art of producing halfway discernible extremities escapes me at times....moving on...
